Okay, so this room isn’t all red or pink, but it’s definitely romantic! We especially love the pomegranates on the table and the metallic sheer curtain hung in the entryway to the dining area—special touches that you could easily recreate on your own for a magical Valentine’s Day dinner.

Designer Profile: NYFW Fall 2014 with Oscar de la Renta, Anna Sui, Derek Lam & Cynthia Rowley
Fashion and interior designers are inundated with color and texture all day long, and they bring the same fashionable sensibility to their homes as they do to their clothing collections. Some prefer a soothing neutral home environment whereas others like something more vibrant. As evidenced during last week’s New York Fashion Week, designers Cynthia Rowley, Oscar de la Renta, Anna Sui and Derek Lam approach their Fall 2014 collections and their homes with a similar design aesthetic. Check it out:
Cynthia Rowley
Cynthia Rowley loves color and pushes the envelope. Her Fall 2014 show features color blocking to its fullest. Wearing her collection, one could easily blend right in to her NYC townhouse.
Oscar de la Renta
First Ladies, socialites, and “ladies who lunch” wear Oscar’s magnificent clothing. More affordable yet still uber-elegant, his Lee Jofa fabric collection reflects his traditional sense of style in both his Connecticut home and in his 2014 collections.

Anna Sui
Anna Sui is the fashion world’s punk darling. She loves combining inspiration from many periods and her home is the ultimate eclectic space. It reflects elements of Goth, Art Deco, and the Victorian period while pulling influences from Moroccan & Chinese cultures.
Derek Lam
Derek Lam is refinement and tailoring at its best. Both his work and his home exude luxury by using the finest cashmere, velvets and silks.

Summer Color Trend: Blue Hues
In addition to its soothing qualities, blue is one of the season’s most popular colors. Dive into the trend this summer, adding a little (or a lot!) of the hue to your home. |
Summer is here, which means that it’s time to go outside and soak up some sun! Whether you’re lounging poolside or on a terrace, you can bring the look of rolling surf to your outdoor space with Schumacher’s Trina Turk coordinating blue fabrics in tropical florals, undulating stripes, and ethnic chevrons. We especially love the retro vibe of Santorini Print in Marine. |
More Fun & Fast Ways To Use Blue: |
Ralph Lauren’s Indigo Isle collection evokes an exotic destination surrounded by deep blue waters. Inspired by Southeast Asian textiles, designs in indigo stripes, florals, and ikats will bring worldly sophistication to any space. Fill an entire room with a combination of patterns like Bulan Weave in Ink and Ginger Flower Batik in Porcelain for an enchanting refuge. |
Dusk Blue is one of Pantone’s latest color trends for 2013, and we can see why. Evoking the magical point of nightfall just before the sun slips below the horizon, this hue calms even the most frazzled mind. Highland Court’s classic fabrics, like 500073H-438 Laguna, feature an array of patterns in dusky shades, offering a traditional interpretation of blue. |
Feel as if you’ve stepped into a weekend cottage fit with a lush garden along England’s rolling countryside with Mulberry’s Country Weekend collection. This line’s hand-finished embroideries and tactile weaves feature rustic plaids, delicate paisleys, and rich textures. Mix several blue-green patterns like Bahama Stripe in Aqua/Blue and Heirloom Paisley in Aqua/Leaf, to add a cozy eclecticism to any space. |

Moody Blues: How Color Affects Your State of Mind
Marine + Navy
Turquoise
Turquoise is a perfect color for bathrooms and powder rooms because it gives a sense of being clean and fresh. Try covering walls in a geometric version of this bright shade of blue, accenting with white and chrome details.
Pastel Blues
Pastel blues are associated with health, healing, tranquility, and softness. Calm your mind and aid concentration with a living room containing soft blues and lavender accents. The key to a full-out pastel look like this is to slightly vary the shades and textures between each piece of furniture. Lush fabrics like chenille and velvet work well for furniture while light weight fabrics are better for drapery.
