Holiday House NYC 2014 Showhouse: 3 Breathtaking Rooms

The Holiday House NYC is one of our favorite show houses! For the past few years it’s been held at the Academy Mansion in Manhattan, a stunning building that world-class designers redecorate, transforming the space into stuff that dreams are made of. We got a first look at this year’s house, which showcased gorgeous decor & apparent talent.

Check out these three breathtaking rooms from the show house:

JUSTIN SHAULIS INCArchitect and interior designer Justin Shaulis transformed the fourth-floor ballroom into a sleek & modern room that focuses on statement artwork. Titled ‘Gallery Hopping in Miami’, the space was meant to transport attendees to Art Basel, an international art show held in Miami in December. “I ultimately wanted to create a space that elicits a response,” explains Justin. “My hope is that peoples’ shoulders relax upon crossing over the threshold into my room, that their breath comes easier, and that their soul is uplifted as they connect with each and every piece of art.”

Traditional libraries that have intricate wood details on the walls tend to be decorated with deep, rich colors, but the Lillian August team surprised us by lightening up the interior’s architecture with winter whites in an array of textures and colorful accessories. The room itself is a nod to the balance of nature and design, exemplified by the organic shapes in the room, of which the chandelier and console are standouts. To top it off, the designers have included a vibrant Willem de Kooning  painting that has never been on exhibit before!

LOUIS NAVARRETE DECORATION

Designer Louis Navarrete created a mysterious oasis on the Holiday House’s third-floor bedroom, entitled ‘Mischievous Night.’ The moody space is a theatrical interpretation of the curious and reflective nature of the artist’s spirit and a haven for daydreaming. The room’s magical color palette of midnight blue, gray, brown and white is meant to evoke a cloudy haze in the night’s sky while the chandelier by Warren Muller–whimsically comprised of a saw, chains, pirate booty, an anchor, and a propeller–is inspired by a shipwreck .

Lenox Hill Hospital’s Inaugural Designer Showhouse of New York: First Look & Tour

Tucked between the winding streets of the Financial District is the Residences at W New York – Downtown, a luxury condominium development, where we ventured to the 55th & 56th floor to marvel at Lenox Hill Hospital’s Inaugural Designer Showhouse of New York. The building’s condos are cozy yet very sleek and modern–a lovely contrast to the expansive Villard Houses we saw last week at the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse.

Well-established designers took to the spaces, each decorating a room with their unique style, proving that even the most modern of spaces can feel like home. As our eyes took in all of the stunning rooms, we saw several trends that we wouldn’t be surprised to see on the pages of top design magazines like Elle Decor and Veranda. Black & white color palettes were seen in abundance as well as pops of citrine (a lovely combination of yellows, greens and browns). We also saw a lot of ultra sleek metal & Lucite furniture and several rooms that were Asian-inspired. Check out the standout rooms from the showhouse:

Ken Gemes’ living room & kitchen area showed us that there’s nothing boring about black & white! By using a variety of Asian-inspired patterns & accents, he created a layered feeling that felt both sophisticated and livable.

Stay tuned next week, when we’ll cover the black & white trend!

This entryway done by Ovadia Design Group is an exemplary way to make a statement in the first part of the home a guest sees. We like how a vignette was created with a bold black & white wallpaper, a large brushed metal table & meaningful accessories.

Felicia Zwebner broke the mold by using a black wallpaper resembling crocodile skin in one of the smaller bedrooms, and she did so with gusto! By combining it with a monochromatic white bed layered with varying textures, the space became chic, modern yet cozy and super sexy. It’s almost as if the black walls wrap around you like a warm blanket.

Meg Brafton riffed on the Asian theme, as well, incorporating chinoiserie prints and a headboard that mimicked the shape of a pagoda. In fact, we saw a seamless blend of all of the showhouse’s trends in her space–There were the citrine walls in the bedroom, the metallic accents in the artwork, and touches of Lucite in the living room, as well!

Caleb Anderson made great use of a small bedroom with a custom made canopy bed that incorporated a floating desk paired with a lucite zig-zag chair. To give the space a luxe feeling, he incorporated several rich textures like silk, heavy linen & mink in neutral shades. Adding a juicy pop of color was an over-dyed rug and bolster pillow in that citrine hue.

A lovely play on mid-century modern, this sitting room by Atelier Durante Interior Design PLLC was simple and timeless with a clean-lined chaise, a lounge chair that looks like it could have come straight out of Mad Men and more citrine (sensing a theme, anyone?)!
