4 Exclusive Tips From The Domino Show House

Last week’s first-ever shop-able show house by Domino magazine was alight with young designers with contemporary visions. The show house, located at 15 William Street in NYC, featured four condominiums decorated by Antonino Buzetta, J+G Designs, Dekar Design & Jenny J. Norris. All merchandise is readily available and can be purchased from each room.ANTONINO BUZZETTA

Antonino Buzzetta along with Sebastian Pinon created a chic retreat with a tribal flair featuring Homeware’s furniture. Ethnic patterns peppered the entire space, tying several rooms together.

Tip: “Getting a little crazy with pattern is okay in our book, because it adds depth and interest” explains Pinon, “And in a small space, we like to paint the moulding the same color as the wall to visually raise the height of the ceiling.”

Dekar Design brought some of our favorite trends to their apartment unit—marbleized prints (on the master bedroom’s headboard) and a mix of intricate geometric prints (in the living area). We love their eclectic combination of both sleek and rough-hewn Ballard pieces.

Tip: “We tried to layer on the patterns particularly in the living room.  We have blue, black, white and red and we threw it off with a mustard coffee table that gives an authentic touch so it feels like it’s been collected through the years”

One of the more colorful spaces of the show house, this apartment unit by J + G design feels refreshing with its skilled use of Thomasville furniture. Features that stood out to us were the abstract artwork that mimics the throw pillows in the living room, the fun confetti-like bedding in the kid’s room, and the pretty chinoiserie panels in the master bedroom.

Tip: “In a modern high rise city apartment, use a mix of textures to create a warm and cozy environment!”

Tip: “Use textured wall coverings like grass cloth to give dimension to a room.”

Holiday House Hamptons 2014 Show House: 5 Fresh Decorating Ideas

The Holiday House Hamptons Show House is officially open! We got an exclusive tour of the space, which is being presented by Hamptons Cottages & Gardens magazine and taking place at Watchcase, Sag Harbor,  a 130-year old former factory renovated into industrial-chic apartments. A stellar list of interior designers took to the space to create rooms that are youthful yet full of that quintessential Hamptons style. Check out the fresh & easy decorating ideas we saw in our favorite rooms at the show house:

Campion Platt

Designer & architect Campion Platt transformed a penthouse master bedroom inspired by “Spring Awakening.” The space features stunning hand-painted lilies on the wall and a light fixture that echoes the flowers’ petals. We like how he complemented the painted blossoms with a head board covered in a more structured green geometric fabric from Beacon Hill. The bathroom, feels inviting thanks to the special touch Platt added: a wicker tray filled with luxurious bath toiletries. What an easy & fast way to make guests feel right at home!

James “Ford” Huniford

James “Ford” Huniford’s room is a true testament to our prediction that spaces filled entirely with neutral hues is a hot trend in the Hamptons. Huniford, choosing to reflect the Labor Day Holiday in his room, brought the outdoors in with large plants & a table resembling a tree trunk and mixed it with urban pieces. The result is a perfect balance of city-meets-beach side.

Tamara Magel

Multi-talented clothing, textile & fashion designer Tamara Magel breathed life into the closet of her space by installing a cheerful wallpaper pattern (her own design)–A great idea that anyone can use to liven up an old closet area. The dresses and tunic pictured in the closet are also Tamara’s original designs!

Jennifer Going Interiors

The wood panel that’s inset into the headboard (an antique find from Indonesia) of designers Jennifer Going’s & Stephen Czeck’s bedroom has us wanting to DIY our own! We like how they mixed different ethnic patterns to create an eclectic vibe. The watercolor wall was made by blowing up the scale of a watercolor painting from local artist Lisa Mascali, and turning it into wallpaper.

West Chin Architects, PLLC

West of West Chin Architects, PLLC hit the nail on the head with light fixtures showcasing bulbs entangled in nautical rope, a focal point that really sets the beach house tone. West also used back-to-back seating, which is a trend that we recommend you consider–it’s great for entertaining because guests can congregate in small groups and it provides several comfortable places for them to sit without sacrificing too much space.
