Summer is almost here, and after the winter we’ve had, we’re all ready for some fun in the sun! Get your home summer-ready, too, with these 4 easy updates:
Switch to Sheers
Switch out your heavy drapery for something light, neutral and sheer. When the windows are open, the curtains will gently float in the breeze, creating that easy summer ambiance. If you have an open space that gets a lot of direct sunlight, consider separating the area with a sheer divider curtain instead.
A few well-placed pillows in watermelon, tangerine or aqua hues will instantly “cabana-ify” your living area. “Pillows really should be considered as home accessories that can be changed as the seasons do,” says designer Jonathan Adler. Play off of a color that’s already in the decor of your room, and choose a shade of it that’s more vibrant.
Replace Your Rug
Roll up dark and heavy rugs for the summer months and replace them with a woven one in a natural material like jute. It will immediately make the space feel lighter and more laid-back. Depending on your decor and taste, you can choose one with a border, fringe or even a woven pattern—just stick to something neutral. Here, Alessandra Branca uses a sisal rug in her Bahamas vacation home.
Go for Grasscloth
Grasscloth wallpaper, just like a sisal rug, adds a casual-cool factor to decor, which is what summer is all about. We’re particularly fond of green hues like citrine, pistachio, and seafoam, all of which are having a moment right now. Do it as an accent wall to anchor large furniture like a bed or cover a whole room with it for a vivid punch of color.
