The homes of Diane Von Furstenberg, Julianne Moore, Karlie Kloss & Reese Witherspoon are beyond gorgeous! All of these ladies’ abodes have something in common–they use rugs to amp up the style factor. Check out their their digs, and see how to get the look:
Diane Von Furstenberg
“I always knew the woman I wanted to be,” said Diane Von Furstenberg, and her Manhattan penthouse speaks volumes to that point–it’s glamourous, feminine and bold in all of the right ways (GoodReads). A large-scale leopard print rug is the statement piece of the room that grounds the chartreuse yellow couch (a favorite color of DVF’s), Chinese artist Zhang Huan’s portrait of Von Furstenberg and the angular wood tables. Black & white zebra stripe and ikat pillows top off the look.
When it comes to her home, Julianne Moore does all of her own decorating, drawing inspiration from her Scottish immigrant mother. “[My mother] was always trying to put a house together with no money, sewing her own slipcovers and curtains, using whatever we had,” says Moore, “[She] always said a house is never finished…That’s what makes it interesting.” (Elle Decor) By choosing to incorporate a rug into her living room, Julianne Moore gives herself the freedom to easily change the feeling of the decor, just like her mom used to. Today she brings a tribal feeling to the mid-century modern space with an ethnic rug, but tomorrow she could get a completely different look just by switching out the style of rug.
American supermodel Karlie Kloss, who has been named by Vogue Paris as one of the top 30 models of the 2000s, enlisted the help of designer Nate Berkus to decorate her West Village home. “I wanted the home to feel mature, but appropriate.” said Berkus, who was politely asked by Kloss to make it look practical yet stylish (Domaine). “It’s a classic example of high and low,” says Berkus, who started with an accessible braided rug (Domaine), then built upon that with a neutral linen couch, luxurious gold accessories, and a few fun pillows as accents.
Beloved American actress Reese Witherspoon’s home in Ojai, California takes on a Swedish eclecticism with lots of patterns in faded hues and vintage Swedish furniture. In her daughter’s bedroom, Reese brings both style & comfort for playtime to the space with an ethnic meets eclectic rug. She then combines a variety of prints, from plaids and ikats to stripes, on the bed, which is inset to the wall.
