Mood Board Monday: Classic Chinoiserie Decor

decor iinterior asia

Inspiration: Today we are inspired by chinoiserie. The name may not ring a bell but the pattern certainly will. This very popular Chinese decor trend that originated in the 17th century Asia is back again.  It started in castles and fancy abodes and today is experiencing a comeback, now appearing in our homes and apartments.

Get the Look: If you pick this pattern apart you will see various Chinese influences–birds, floral prints, pagodas, etc.  For a modern take on the trend, use blue and white (both of which can play as neutrals) to accent the busy print. Because chinoiserie is bold enough to speak for itself, we recommend complementing it with solids or small patterns. Another easy way to incorporate chinoiserie into your home is to add classic blue and white vases like those seen on the cover of Traditional Home (April 2014 issue).
