In September, we saw Eastern influences on the Spring 2014 runways from the likes of Prada and Pucci, and now we’re seeing it in the homes of trendsetters. Asian-inspired fabrics can quickly take a room from blah to beautiful by upholstering furniture with patterns like Schumacher’s iconic Chiang Mai Dragon or their updated version, Shanghai Peacock .

Eliminate the need to hang pictures on the wall with an Eastern-inspired wallpaper that is artwork in and of itself. From classic Asian toiles and modern chinoiserie to bamboo trellis prints, these dramatic papers are gorgeous as a statement wall. Try Scalamandre’s Shanghai, a print that’s been popular for years!

Bamboo, arrowroot & sisal plants all hail from Asia and are used to make grasscloth wallpaper. Recently, Schumacher collaborated with designer Celerie Kemble to update this naturally textured paper by adding pattern to it. The result is exquisite prints that look handmade, like Feather Bloom.

An easy way to take on the Asian trend is with pillows, which can “change the entire feel of a room,” says Brooklyn designer Ellen Hamilton. Bright reds will add a pop of color, while neutral colors in Eastern trellis motifs create a zen ambiance. We like pagoda prints like Lhasa.
