We were excited when we heard the latest design collaboration between one of New York’s most innovative interior designers, Eileen Kathryn Boyd, and one of our favorite manufacturers, Duralee Fabrics. Eileen has worked with some of New York’s most prestigious residents and attributes the beautiful, fashionable designs coming off the runways for inspiring her creations. We have mentioned the influence fashion has on interior design and we were looking forward to seeing Eileen’s take on fashion’s latest trends.
As you can see from some of Eileen’s earliest sketches, the vibrant colors she has chosen are reminiscent of some of the colors we are seeing on the pages of the latest fashion magazines. Her geometric shapes are youthful and fresh and just the influx of color we need heading into summer.
Boyd says “When searching for a color story it is important to perform a thorough color analysis of those already existing in your life. Perhaps you will find them in your wardrobe or linens, or maybe it’s those found in nature that draw you in and captivate your attention.”
Take this print that Eileen drew mimicking a Bulgari ring from her personal collection.
Boyd also draws upon some of her favorite artists like Georgia O’Keeffe and Kandinsky for inspiration when designing. Whether she is strolling through the Whitney or headed up to the Guggenheim, museums are another go to place for Eileen when creating fabrics.
We definitely see the influence of Georgia O’Keeffe in the pattern above.
Boyd seems to have a strong grasp on mixing and matching colors. Her look books Amethyst – Lavender, Fuschia – Citron, Smoke – Sand, Navy – Sky and Aquamarine – Peridot display a wonderful blend of bright colors with muted tones.
