Toile is a historic and culturally significant pattern-based French fabric, often depicting intricate symmetrical patterns and the European countryside. DecoratorsBest is proud to carry Braquenié, a distinguished manufacturer of beautiful, traditional toile and other sumptuous fabric, embodying the very spirit of French classicism.
Braquenié originated in early 19th century France as a part of a textiles business founded by Mr. Demy Doineau. Designing toile fabrics for Napoléon III, Braquenié reigned in its field.
In the middle of the 19th century, Demy partnered with Alexandre Braquenié, and in 1948 Alexandre partnered with his son-in-law Henri Braquenié, who went on to direct Braquenié’s business for forty-nine years.
Braquenié toile has been seen in the homes of Victor Hugo, the Vatican, Duc Pozzo di Borgo, the Louvre, the Marquess de la Païva, Chambord, and the Rothschild family.
In 1991 the timeless company joined the Pierre Frey group. The new Braquenié collection, which brings together archive designs never seen before and reworked Pierre Frey classics, is composed entirely of embroidered materials on natural linen, cotton or silk base fabrics. The colors are faithful to the original designs in order to perpetuate these historic documents.
